The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, will lead a 30-member strong business delegation to visit Russia from August 31 to September 2 to attend "Hong Kong in Moscow" activities. This is Mr Tsang's first official visit to Russia as Chief Executive.
The visit aims to strengthen bilateral co-operation with Russia in trade and non-trade areas. It will promote the advantages of Hong Kong as a sourcing hub and a fund-raising platform for Russian firms, and the new opportunities arising from the growth of Renminbi business in Hong Kong.
During his three-day visit, Mr Tsang will meet with the country's senior Government officials and business leaders; officiate at a Hong Kong tourism promotion event organised by the Tourism Board; officiate at an event marking Cathay Pacific Airways' launch of direct passenger flights between Hong Kong and Moscow; and address a business seminar organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Invest Hong Kong.
The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan and the Director of the Chief Executive's Office, Mr Raymond Tam, will also join the visit.
As part of the "Hong Kong in Moscow" activities, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London will organise a Hong Kong film event in Moscow from September 2 to 7 at a local art cinema to demonstrate the vibrancy and innovative flair of Hong Kong's movie industry.
During Mr Tsang's absence, the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang, will be the acting Chief Executive.
Meanwhile, Mr Tsang has decided not to attend the "Sixth Pan-Pearl River Delta Regional Co-operation and Development Forum and Trade Fair" from today (August 27) to August 29 in Fujian. He will stay in Hong Kong to deal with the aftermath of the hostage incident. The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam, will lead the official delegation to the forum.
