Hospital Authority overseas medical support team returned to Hong Kong with the last patient of Manila Hostage Incident

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     All members of the Hospital Authority (HA) overseas medical support team have returned to Hong Kong from Manila with the last patient and his family returned today (August 26) for further treatment in Tuen Mun Hospital.  A total of eight professional healthcare staff from HA has been deployed to the Philippines to assist the Hong Kong residents involved in the hostage incident.

     "In such difficult moments, our professional doctors and nurses were set out to the Philippines within hours to provide timely assistance to our fellow Hong Kong citizens in distress," said HA Chairman Mr Anthony Wu.

     "In view of the particular condition of a young patient, we have additionally deployed a neurosurgeon yesterday to support the clinical management and to provide advice to the patient's family."

     Mr Wu added that psychological needs of the families and friends of the victims and patients were taken care of by our clinical psychologists jointly with the Social Welfare Department colleagues.

     "We are especially saddened that one of our colleagues in Kowloon Hospital has been involved in this tragic event and suffered the loss of her loved one," he added that HA will provide every assistance to her and her family to help them get through the difficult moments.

     There are now three patients staying in the Prince of Wales Hospital and Tuen Mun Hospital.

     "We will provide the best of care to them to facilitate their recovery both physically and psychologically," remarked Mr Wu.
