Update on cluster of Human Influenza A (H3) cases in Castle Peak Hospital male ward

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding an earlier announcement on some patients in a male ward in Castle Peak Hospital (CPH) being infected by Human Influenza A (H3), the spokesman for the CPH issued the following updates today (August 24):

     One more patient (aged 51) in the ward has presented with fever and flu symptoms.  Appropriate viral tests were arranged for him.  Test results are still pending.  The patient is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition.

     Admission to the ward is suspended. Restricted visits to and discharge from the ward have been imposed and infection control measures have been stepped up.  All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
