Immigration Service to use new smart warrant cards from August 24 (with photos)
********************************************************

The Immigration Department announced today (August 23) that members of the Immigration Service will use a new smart warrant card from tomorrow (August 24).

"The Immigration Department is issuing new smart warrant cards to all service members in order to enhance operational efficiency," a department spokesman said.

The new warrant card is a multi-functional smart card embedded with a chip module with contact and contactless interface, which provides room for extending its functions beyond being a proof of identity for members of the Immigration Service.  It also enables service members to gain access to the controlled floors of the Immigration Headquarters.

The new warrant card is highly secure.  It is made of polycarbonate with the crest of the Immigration Department clearly printed on the top left-hand corner.  It contains various forgery-proof security features, including optical variable ink, guilloche, rainbow printing and display of the Immigration crest under ultraviolet light.  Moreover, the holder's personal information is securely encrypted in the chip embedded in the card.
