Police officers issued a total of 514 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 64 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.
The operation concluded at 7 p.m. today (August 17) and a total of 205 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 328 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 186 for other traffic offences.
Twenty-four pedestrians and 178 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.
Statistics revealed that a total of 1,718 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to July this year.
Of them, 52.3 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
