Force deeply grieved by the death of Police Constable in traffic accident

     The Commissioner of Police, Mr Tang King-shing, was deeply grieved by the death of Police Constable, Mr Leung Ting-lun, during a traffic accident while on duty today (August 17) and extended condolences to Mr Leungˇ¦s family.

     At about 7pm, Constable Leung was travelling along Fan Leng Lau Road southbound on his police motorcycle. At the junction of Wo Muk Road, Mr. Leungˇ¦s motorcycle collided with a public light bus (PLB) driven by a 60-year-old man which was turning right into Wo Muk Road from Fan Leng Lau Road northbound.

     The seriously injured officer was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital for medical treatment but later certified dead at 8.31pm.

     The 60-year-old PLB driver was arrested for ˇ§Dangerous Driving Causing Deathˇ¨ and is still being detained for enquiries.

     Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North are proceeding.  

     The Force Welfare Services Group has been in touch with Mr Leung's family and would make every effort to help his family during this time of sadness.

     Mr Leung, aged 34, joined the Force in 1994. He was attached to the Patrol Subunit of the Enforcement and Control Division of Traffic New Territories North.  . He was survived by his wife and a son.

     Police urged anyone who saw the accident or has any information, to contact the investigating officer at 3661 3800 or 3661 3859.
