*******************************************************

Police yesterday (August 16) reclassified as murder and suicide a case in which a 71-year-old woman was found dead and a 33-year-old woman died after falling from a height in Wong Tai Sin on August 8.

About 8.05pm on August 8, Police received a report that a woman was wandering along a corridor in Sau Yuen House in Chuk Yuen South Estate. Police arrived at the scene and found that the 33-year-old woman had returned to a unit which was emitting smoke. She subsequently fell from a height and sustained multiple fractures outside Sau Yuen House where she was certified dead at the scene.

Police entered the unit and found a 71-year-old woman lying unconscious with a severe head injury and multiple chop wounds over her body. She was certified dead at the scene. Police seized two choppers and two knives in the unit.

Initial investigations lead Police to believe that the two women had a dispute earlier in the unit, and the 33-year-old woman committed suicide after attacking her 71-year-old mother.

Post-mortem examinations revealed that the 33-year-old woman died from her fall while the cause of death of the 71-year-old woman is to be ascertained pending further chemical reports.

Active investigations by the District Crime Squad of Wong Tai Sin District are underway.
