A leading local figure in modern musical theatre, Kung Chi Shing, will soon perform with artists from Hong Kong, the United States, Australia and Japan in his multi-media production, "City Inside a Broken Sky II".
"City Inside a Broken Sky II" aims to explore and record the existential madness of life in a city. Getting lost can be a beautiful thing. Being lost, we explore; going mad, we break the rules. Beauty evolves between two extremes.
Sharing their experiences through music, images and movements in the creation of a "pop opera", the performers joining Kung comprise Nancy Loo, Lee Chun Chow, Julia Mok (Hong Kong), Makoto Matsushima (Japan), Hahn Rowe and Peter Jarvis (USA), William Lane (Australia) and special guest Eman Lam.
Born and bred in Hong Kong, Kung Chi Shing returned to his hometown in the early 80s after studying classical music and composition under Allen Trubitt and George Crumb in the US. His pioneering musical and performance style was surprising to a Hong Kong audience. His music theatre has been a great influence on the contemporary music scene in Hong Kong.
