Flags at Half-mast tomorrow

     The National Flag and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Regional Flag displayed at all HKSAR government offices will be flown at half-mast tomorrow (August 15) as a token of mourning for the victims of the serious mudslide in Zhouqu, Gansu. The Government also calls on the public to express their feelings tomorrow in appropriate ways.

     The Tourism Commission will suspend "A Symphony of Lights" tomorrow night.

     On the advice of the Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee, the Government has already approved a grant of about $2.44 million from the Fund for an NGO to provide emergency relief to the victims.

     The Government has also proposed to donate $50 million to the Provincial Government of Gansu via the Fund to provide relief for the mudslide victims. The Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council has agreed to convene a special meeting as soon as possible to examine this application.
