EPD's "Minimising Waste, Maximising the Future" recycling bin exhibition (with photos)
**********************************************************

The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) has organised an exhibition of recycling bins to promote the concept of recycling. Nine prominent artists, designers and artistes were invited to design a series of unique recycling bins. The bins will present green concepts through their artistic designs, which call on the public to support and participate in waste separation and recycling by using recycling bins more often.

These specially designed recycling bins will be displayed in a three-day exhibition at the covered piazza of Times Square, from noon to 8pm, from today (August 13).

Recycling bin designs in the exhibition are by Tommy Li, Dorian Ho, Dorothy Tang, Siuhak, Chocolate Rain, Lester Lee, Lau Kin-gi, Simon Yam and the Wai Yin Association.

The theme of Simon Yam's recycling bin design is "Follow your heart", illustrating the idea that the motivation for recycling must come from one's heart, which is the best motive to take action for environmental protection. The Wai Yin Association's design was conceived by Angie Chiu, Mandy Cho and Hoyan Mok with the theme "Try our best to create a better future". This design encourages the public to try their utmost to separate waste for recycling and to protect the environment, and conveys the wish for a better future through our combined efforts.

The youngest designer, Lau Kin-gi, is a four-year-old boy who won a medal in the 38th International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice with his drawing of a tiger. On the recycling bins of his own design, he has drawn the core of a flower as a globe to convey the message that if people made good use of resources and recycled waste, the world would be as beautiful as a flower.

The recycling bins exhibition is part of the "Minimising Waste, Maximising the Future" waste reduction campaign. Launched on May 23, the campaign aims to encourage the public to embrace green living and make good use of resources through a series of activities with the business sector and various organisations.
