The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 12) pursued four claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $82,000 on behalf of 14 employees, who were owed Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) contributions by their employers.
At the Tribunal's hearing today, the four defendants, namely Amax World Limited, Amberley Hong Kong Limited, Maxthrust Limited trading as The Aviator and Polyclean Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $39,234.81, $24,010.64, $15,949.42 and $2,844.61 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Adjudicator further ordered the defendants to pay $215, $164 and $60 and $115 respectively as the costs of the claims.
