Grants approved for mudslide victims in Gansu and flood victims in Sichuan
********************************************************

The Government has accepted the advice of the Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee and approved a grant of $3.1 million from the Disaster Relief Fund to The Amity Foundation to undertake relief projects for mudslide victims in Gansu and flood victims in Sichuan. The majority of this grant, about $2.44 million, will be used for Gansu while the rest will be used for Sichuan.

Announcing the grant today (August 11), a government spokesman said that the Committee hoped it would help provide relief to the victims on the Mainland.

The grant is further to a disbursement of $19.23 million made earlier for The Amity Foundation, The Association of Chinese Evangelical Ministry Limited, The Salvation Army, Oxfam Hong Kong and World Vision Hong Kong to provide emergency relief to flood victims in Guangxi, Hunan, Jiangxi, Shaanxi and Yunnan. It takes the total value of grants for flood victims on the Mainland to $22.33 million.

"To ensure that the money will be used for the designated purposes, the relief agency has been asked to submit evaluation report and audited accounts on the use of the grant after the relief project has been completed," the spokesman said.
