**********************************************************

The SAR Government announced today (August 10) the appointment of 11 members from the arts and cultural sector as well as the creative industries to the newly established Hong Kong-Taiwan Cultural Co-operation Committee (HKTCCC).

Established under the Hong Kong-Taiwan Economic and Cultural Co-operation and Promotion Council (ECCPC) as the Hong Kong counterpart of the cultural co-operation committee under the Taiwan-Hong Kong Economic and Cultural Co-operation Council (THEC) in Taiwan, the HKTCCC aims to foster exchange, liaison and co-operation between the two places in the development of the arts and culture and the creative industries as well as encourage the exchange of views and information on issues of mutual concern.  The Financial Secretary is the Honorary Chairperson and Mr Charles Lee Yeh-kwong the Chairperson of the ECCPC.

The HKTCCC will serve four major functions: (i) Foster friendship and understanding among members of the arts and cultural sector as well as the creative industries in Hong Kong and Taiwan; (ii) Strengthen co-operation between Hong Kong and Taiwan in the development of the arts and culture and the creative industries; (iii) Discuss and exchange information on issues that may have impact on the arts and culture and the creative industries on both sides; and (iv) Relay issues of mutual concern to the relevant authorities.

Mr Fredric Mao Chun-fai, founder and Director of Performing Arts Asia, has been appointed the convener of the HKTCCC.  "Mr Mao is a seasoned arts and cultural practitioner with rich theatrical performance experience.  He is well acquainted with the arts and cultural scenes in the Mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and maintains an extensive network in the three places.  In recent years, he has spared no effort in nurturing the arts and cultural talent," a government spokesman said.

"Mr Mao has also participated actively in public service.  He is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, a member of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and a member of the Committee on Performing Arts.  With his experience and insight, we believe that cultural exchange between Hong Kong and Taiwan will be further strengthened."
