The Legislative Council Panel on Home Affairs continued its duty visit in Tokyo, Japan yesterday (August 6) to study the strategies and measures in the preservation of traditional arts and culture, nurturing of artists, and promotion of arts education and support for the arts.
On the second day of visit in Tokyo, the delegation visited the Japan Arts Council, an Independent Administrative Institution and the executive arm of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, to understand its work in preserving and promoting traditional performing arts and fostering modern performing arts in Japan. The delegation also visited the National Theatre and the New National Theatre managed by the Council, and received briefings on human resources development strategies related to the preservation and promotion of Kabuki and Noh, and training of young artists for opera, ballet and drama, respectively. During the delegation's visit to the National Art Centre, members studied the implementation of programmes to enhance participation, interaction and creativity in the arts, as well as outreach activities and educational programmes for the promotion of the arts. The delegation also met with the Association for Corporate Support of the Arts Japan, a non-profit community organisation, to understand its work in promoting corporate support of the arts.
Members of the delegation leave Tokyo and depart for Kyoto on today (August 7) to continue its duty visit in Japan. During its stay in Kyoto, the delegation will visit the Miho Museum to understand the development and operation of the Museum as a privately run arts and cultural organisation, and the Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art to study its work in advancing cultural development and enhancing the public's appreciation of the arts. The delegation will depart Japan for Seoul on August 8.
