Employees' compensation for work accidents raised from today

     The amendments to increase the amounts of five compensation items under the Employees' Compensation Ordinance, passed by the Legislative Council on June 30, take effect from today (August 1). The revised levels of compensation are applicable to work accidents that happen on or after August 1, 2010. Details of the changes are as follows:

     A spokesman for the Labour Department said the Employees' Compensation Ordinance provides for the payment of compensation to employees and family members of deceased employees for occupational diseases, injuries or deaths caused by accidents arising out of and in the course of employment. The new levels of compensation will benefit employees and their family members.
