Young reporters write about summer youth programme
**************************************************

Members of the public are invited to visit the 2010 Summer Youth Programme website to read the interesting reports on summer activities written by young reporters recruited under the Home Affairs Department's "Voluntary Reporters Scheme". The first issue in this year's programme was released today (July 30).

The scheme, launched since 2007, has received a good response over the past three years.

A spokesman for the Home Affairs Department said, "The scheme aims to broaden the horizons of youngsters, enhance their confidence and improve their writing and communication skills through interviewing people from various walks of life.

"It is also hoped that participants of the scheme will have a deeper understanding of the summer youth activities through reporting and help promote the messages of these activities to their peers and readers.

"As in previous years, the department has selected several dozen activities, including the opening ceremony of 2010 Summer Youth Programme, Jockey Club Equestrian Experience for Youth, orienteering, disabled sports programme and overseas exchange programmes, for reporting according to young reporters' interests and talents," the spokesman said.

Briefing sessions on reporting and interviewing techniques were given to the young reporters before the reporting activities while guidelines and information on the activities were also provided to assist them with the reporting.

Reports by the young reporters will be uploaded weekly onto the 2010 Summer Youth Programme newsletter at www.summeryouth.org.hk .
