The Hong Kong Police Dog Unit and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong) [SPCA(HK)] will jointly organise the Police Dog Trial 2010 at the Sham Shui Po Sports Ground on October 31, 2010, from 12.30pm to 5pm.
The trial will be open for the first time for public viewing and to support a charitable cause. Tickets will be sold at $60. Another 500 VIP tickets, at $120 each, have also been set aside. For each VIP ticket sold, the organiser will donate a free ticket to families of limited means. All proceeds will go to the SPCA(HK).
A Police spokesman said, "Apart from charity, the event aims to promote the Police Dog Unit and raise public awareness of animal welfare. The 500 tickets for the underprivileged give them the opportunity to enjoy a day out. We hope that the community will support this meaningful event.
"The Police Dog Unit had in the past held the dog skills competition regularly so that the police dog handlers can compete with each other to hone their handling skills. Over the past few years, the Police Dog Unit was heavily involved in a number of major events in Hong Kong and the competition was suspended. This year, the trial is revived with a fund-raising element to support the SPCA(HK)."
In addition to the competition between agile dogs, there will also be performances by Police Band and singers, experts offering tips on dog care and training, games stalls and the opportunity to take pictures with police dogs.
Tickets will be on sale from August 1, 2010, at SPCA(HK) centres. Purchase order forms are also downloadable from the SPCA website (www.spca.org.hk/dogtrial) and Hong Kong Police website (www.police.gov.hk). Completed forms can be forwarded to the SPCA(HK) by mail or fax.
