****************************************************

The "Special Topics Report No. 52" on social statistics is published by the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) today (July 29).

The report contains the findings of two special enquiries conducted by the C&SD via the General Household Survey during April to June 2009.  These two enquiries include "Casual employment" and "Part-time employment".

The enquiry on "Casual employment" aimed at providing information on the characteristics and employment situation pertaining to casual employees, defined as employees who were employed by an employer on a day-to-day basis or for a fixed period of less than 60 days at the time of enumeration.

The enquiry on "Part-time employment" provided information on the characteristics and employment situation pertaining to employees who were working part-time in their present job.

The report includes findings of the above two enquiries with some 30 statistical tables and charts.

The C&SD has recently conducted a review on the printing of statistical publications and has decided that the print version of the Special Topics Report will no longer be produced starting from this edition.  Nevertheless, the publication is still available for downloading free of charge from the website of the C&SD at www.censtatd.gov.hk/products_and_services/products/publications/statistical_report/social_data/index.jsp .

Enquiries about the contents of the report can be directed to the General Household Survey Section (2) of the C&SD (Tel. : 2887 5503 or email : special-topics@censtatd.gov.hk).
