Two employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (July 21) pursued two claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $19,000 on behalf of two employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearing today, two defendants, namely Cheung Miu Chi Polly formerly trading as Tin Fu Food Company and Hualong Hongkong China Transportation Company Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $16,000 and $3,187.8 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $135 and $96 as the costs in respect of the claims.
