SWD appeals court ruling on judicial review of residence requirement for CSSA applicants
*********************************************************

In response to media follow-up enquiries on the High Court ruling on the judicial review of the one-year-continuous-residence requirement for applicants under the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) Scheme last month, the Social Welfare Department (SWD) issued the following statement:

"After studying the court judgment and its grounds, the SWD today (July 19) lodged an appeal against the High Court ruling of June 21.

According to legal advice, the court ruling involves issues of general importance. The authorities therefore see a need to seek clarifications from the Court of Appeal.

Since appeal proceedings have commenced, the department will not further comment on the case."
