New Central Report Room ready to serve the public (with photos)
********************************************************

The new Central Report Room will start serving the public on July 18 following the full amalgamation of the Central Division and Waterfront Division of Police Central District.

Having moved out of Police Headquarters in Wan Chai, the new Central Report Room will operate at the previous Waterfront Report Room at No.2, Chung Kong Road, Sheung Wan, from 8am on July 18.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Central Report Room today (July 16), the Commissioner of Police, Mr Tang King-shing emphasized the need for continuous improvement. A "new-generation report room" was therefore incorporated in the design of the new report room when planning the amalgamation project.

The aim is to enhance polices services and to provide a greater sense of ease for members of the public using the service through an amicable environment.  It also further enhances efficiency of staff and esprit de corps.

The main features of the new report room include semi-enclosed reporting booths, interview rooms fitted with double-glazed Venetian blinds and a special interview room for vulnerable witnesses or victims to enhance protection of privacy and a sense of ease.

A "hub" design strengthens security through effective monitoring of activities in the report room. The front and back report rooms also clearly separate the public from arrested persons, and additional CCTV cameras are installed to monitor corridors and interview room entrances.

There is a reception counter for greeting the public and handling simple enquiries. A comfortable waiting area is also provided.

Central District will turn into a single-division district after the amalgamation. The Waterfront Police Station will be renamed Central Police Station while the Waterfront Report Room will become the Central Report Room and will open for service on July 18.

The amalgamation will not affect or denigrate the service provided to members of the public as there will be no reduction in the number of frontline officers.  On the contrary, the overall efficiency, through more flexible and effective deployment of resources, will be enhanced.

Members of the public may call the following telephone numbers of report rooms under Central District for enquiries and assistance:
