Police are investigating a theft of vehicle and Police open fire case in which a police officer fired a shot at the driver of a suspicious vehicle in Tuen Mun last night (July 10).
About 8pm, officers of the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau and the Criminal Intelligence Bureau were conducting an intelligence-led anti-vehicle crime operation at an open-air car park on Hing Fu Street. During the operation, a private car (scout car) was found entering the car park. Two men alighted the vehicle and attempted to steal another private car (missing vehicle) in the car park.
Police officers at scene thus turned overt to take arrest action. The men resisted fiercely, causing a police officer slightly injured.
The men then separately drove the scout car and the missing vehicle away. During the course, the scout car hit a police vehicle and endangered the safety of a sergeant beside the police vehicle. A police officer at scene gave verbal warning at the driver but was ignored. To avoid the car ramming into police officers, the officer fired one shot at the driver.
Initial investigation suggested that the shot did not hit anyone.
Police later located the missing vehicle on San Fuk Road. It was confirmed that the vehicle was reported missing in Sham Shui Po area on July 9.
Police arrested a 37-year-old woman in connection with vehicle theft at scene and a 25-year-old woman, who is the registered car owner of the scout car, in Yuen Long area.
Police is now wanting two men aged about 40 and locating the scout car.
Active investigations of the case are still on-going.
Officers of the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau are now following up the case.
