Launching ceremony of Electronic Patient Resource Platform of Kowloon Central Cluster of Hospital Authority

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
     
     The Kowloon Central Cluster today (July 10) held the launching ceremony of Electronic Patient Resource Platform cum Patient Forum 2010 at the Lobby of Block D at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH). This one-stop Electronic Patient Resource Platform has been newly designed with an aim of serving patients, carers, patient groups, volunteers and the local community in the Kowloon Central Cluster via this interactive and diversified health-related information medium.

     Addressing at the launching ceremony, Cluster Chief Executive of Kowloon Central Cluster, Dr C T Hung mentioned, "Apart from providing information via the platform, we hope that our community partners will act as a bridge between hospitals and users ¡V helping us disseminate information to patients, and assisting in collecting views from users concerning our services." Dr Hung anticipated that patients in the Kowloon Central Cluster would make use of this two-way platform widely for enhancing mutual communication and collaboration among patients, the community and the Cluster.

     Dr Hung also expressed his gratitude towards the community partner ¡V College of Life Sciences and Technology, HKU SPACE ¡V for its professional input and expertise in platform design and set up to making the success of the launching of the Electronic Patient Resource Platform.

     Officiating guests of the launching ceremony included Associate Head of College of Life Sciences and Technology, HKU SPACE, Dr Raymond Szeto; District Officer, Social Welfare Department (Kowloon City and Yau Tsim Mong), Mrs Barbara Lai; Chairman of Hospital Governing Committee of QEH, Mr John Lee, JP; and Cluster Chief Executive of Kowloon Central Cluster / Hospital Chief Executive of QEH, Dr C T Hung.

The Electronic Patient Resource Platform serves the following purposes:

*  To act as the communication platform among hospitals, service users and community partners;
*  To enhance patients' self-management knowledge and capacity, and provide various healthcare information for carers;
*  To facilitate the self-help techniques of patients, and the interaction and development among patient self-help groups;
*  To promote health messages in the community for enriching residents' relevant understanding and knowledge;
*  To boost the development and experience sharing among volunteers of the Kowloon Central Cluster.

     The launching ceremony was followed by the Patient Forum 2010. Patients were particularly encouraged to make use of the Electronic Patient Resource Platform to express their views and concerns for continuous quality improvement of hospital services.
