Dragon Boat Family Carnival to promote "Care for All"
*****************************************************

The Home Affairs Department will hold a Dragon Boat Family Carnival between July 23 and 25 to promote the message of "Care for All". Ethnic minority families and the underprivileged in the territory will participate to help boost family cohesion and build a harmonious community.

As one of the highlights under "Vibrant People, Harmonious Community Activities", the carnival will be held at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza and the Avenue of Stars to tie in with the Hong Kong Tourism Board's 2010 Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races at Tsim Sha Tsui East Promenade.

A spokesman for the Home Affairs Department said, "The carnival comprises two key parts ¡V Dragon Boat Cultural Exhibition and Family Fun Days. Apart from enhancing community harmony, we aim to encourage participation in cultural and sports activities, and to boost local tourism."

The Dragon Boat Cultural Exhibition is to take place between July 23 and 25. Large traditional dragon boats made of wood and panels introducing various types of dragon boats will be displayed to showcase dragon boat culture and the history of the Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races. Experts will be on site on July 24 and 25 to offer briefings and demonstrations for the public to learn and experience the fun of rowing.

The Family Fun Days will be held in the afternoon of July 24 and 25. Apart from live broadcast of important races of the 2010 Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races, there will be stage performances by local organisations, booth games, clown shows, a kids zone and traditional arts and crafts. Participants can enjoy various games and get prizes or souvenirs.

The public and tourists are welcome to join the carnival. However, booth games on the Family Fun Days are open to ticket holders only. Free game booth tickets will be distributed at Public Enquiry Service Centres of the 18 District Offices from July 15 on a first-come-first-served basis. Each person can have a maximum of two tickets. A few tickets are reserved for distribution on the event days. For enquiries, please call 2835 2353.

The "Vibrant People, Harmonious Community Activities" programme is organised by the Home Affairs Department with support from the District Councils, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department. More than 400 activities centring on four themes - Sports for All, Arts for All, Care for All and Cultural/Ecological Tourism for All - have started from now until next March. These activities are to promote the four elements - "get into vitality", "get into creativity", "get into harmony" and "get into discovery".

For more details, the public can get a copy of the Event Calendar at the Public Enquiry Service Centres of the 18 District Offices, or visit the dedicated website, www.hca.gov.hk.
