HFMD and EV71 situation update

     A spokesman for the Department of Health said reports about three enterovirus 71 infections and nine hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) institutional outbreaks were received during the three days ending at noon today (July 5).

     This brings to 527 the cumulative total number of HFMD institutional outbreaks in 2010.

     The new school and institutional outbreaks were in Central and Western, Eastern, Kwun Tong, North, Sai Kung, Sha Tin, Tsuen Wan and Yuen Long.

     One school is closed due to an HFMD outbreak.
