Police officers issued a total of 315 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 58 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.
The operation concluded at 7pm today (June 29) and a total of 183 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 246 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 69 for other traffic offences.
Twenty pedestrians and 172 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.
Statistics revealed that a total of 1215 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to May this year.
Of them, 52.9 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
