Six employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (28 June) pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $106,000 on behalf of 10 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearing today, two defendants, namely Kindview Industrial Limited and Lo Kam Wah trading as Topson Trading Co, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA a sum of $12,970.46 and $9,237.8 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other four defendants, namely Traders Choice International Company Limited, Cheng Ying Kit trading as Shing Kee, Crown Rich Trading Limited and Lao Wai Kit formerly trading as A & E Optical Centre, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA a sum of $40,382.76, $29,452.74, $10,117.28, and $4,409.59 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $135, $129, $202, $179, $50 and $99 as the costs in respect of the claims.
