Illegal gambling raid in Yau Ma Tei and Ngau Tau Kok

     Police today (June 27) mounted an anti-illegal gambling operation in Yau Ma Tei and Ngau Tau Kok, resulting in the arrest of four men and seizure of betting records worth about 170 million.

     Acting on intelligence and in-depth investigations on illegal bookmaking activities, officers from the Organised Crime and Triad Bureau raided a hotel in Yau Ma Tei and a unit on Wang Tai Road, Ngau Tau Kok at about 3.30pm today. Four men, aged between 43 and 58, were arrested for illegal bookmaking.

     Police also seized about 170 million worth of soccer and horse racing betting records, seven computers, 10 mobile phones and 24 computer monitors during the operation.

     The four arrestees are still being detained for further enquiries.

     The police will continue to combat illegal bookmaking activities during the World Cup tournaments and urge anyone who has information on illegal betting to report to the police at 2527 7887.
