Chief Secretary Henry Tang today (June 26) expressed deep grief over the death of the internationally acclaimed painting master Wu Guanzhong and extended his condolences to Mr Wu's family.
Praising Mr Wu's extraordinary artistic achievements, Mr Tang said Mr Wu had generously donated his precious works to worldwide museums, including the Hong Kong Museum of Art. The many donations Mr Wu made to Hong Kong have testified his love for the territory, not to mention his lofty and selfless attitude towards art.
Mr Wu donated a total of 52 paintings to Hong Kong on four occasions, including the latest donation of five paintings.
"Mr Wu's donations have enriched Hong Kong's cultural heritage. His love for the territory will always be remembered by the people of Hong Kong," Mr Tang said.
