The Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia in Canada will present a double bill of puppetry, "Goodnight Moon" and "The Runaway Bunny", in late July. This heart-warming multi-media performance is a treat for all families.
In "Goodnight Moon", a bunny goes through the comforting bedtime ritual of bidding goodnight to every object in sight and in his imagination, from the pictures on the walls to the brush and comb, to the moon and stars. "The Runaway Bunny" focuses on a young rabbit who imagines leaving home. However, whatever the little bunny declares he will change himself into - a fish, a rock, a bird, a boat in his pretend game of hide-and-seek, he always ends up being found by his mother.
The two stories are adapted from the classic bedtime stories of celebrated author Margaret Wise Brown and illustrator Clement Hurd, which have delighted generations of children since they were first published in the 1940s. This entrancing performance features innovative puppetry, original music, colourful sets and black light magic that will lull young and old into a spell-binding land of dreams and imagination. Come join the endearing little rabbits as they seek reassurance and celebrate a mother's love in these two delightful tales.
Founded in 1972, Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia's puppet theatre productions have introduced hundreds of thousands of youngsters to contemporary and traditional literary classics. "Goodnight Moon" and "The Runaway Bunny" have chalked up over 320 performances with more than 165,000 spectators throughout the United States and Canada.
"Goodnight Moon" and "The Runaway Bunny" is one of the programmes of the large-scale summer arts festival "International Arts Carnival" presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Details of the programme are as follows:
