Update on cluster of human Metapneumovirus cases in mentally handicapped ward in Tuen Mun Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding a cluster of patients in a mentally handicapped mixed ward in Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) who had recently been confirmed with human Metapneumoviral infection, the hospital spokesperson announced the following update today (June 21):

     One more female patient (aged 40) in the ward presented with fever. Appropriate tests were arranged and the results were positive for human Metapneumovirus. The patient is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition.   

     Admission to the ward has been suspended. Restricted visits to and discharge from the ward have been imposed. Infection control measures in the ward concerned have been stepped up. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
