******************************************

The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Edward Yau, today (June 21) continued his visit to Japan. During a brief stay in Tokyo, he spoke at a seminar on the green side of Hong Kong and visited an electric vehicle (EV) services provider to learn more about the latest EV technology.

Delivering the keynote speech at the Green Side of Hong Kong Seminar in the morning, Mr Yau introduced to the participants the beauty of the rich natural and cultural landscape in the Hong Kong countryside and shared with them the achievements of Hong Kong National Geopark in preserving valuable geological resources and promoting public understanding of geo-conservation.

In the afternoon, Mr Yau tried first-hand an EV taxi ride to the Better Place, an EV services provider with expertise in developing battery charging networks. He was briefed on the operation of its battery exchange station. Noting the increasing number of EV charging stations in Hong Kong, he said he was confident that as the technology matures, the transition from traditional cars to EVs would progress well in the near future.

Mr Yau will return to Hong Kong in the evening.
