Update on cluster of human Metapneumovirus cases in mentally handicapped ward in Tuen Mun Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding some patients being infected with human Metapneumoviral in a mentally handicapped mixed ward of Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH), the hospital spokesperson announced the following update today (June 19):

     Two more female patients, aged 24 and 42, in the ward had presented with respiratory symptoms. Appropriate tests had been arranged and the test result of one patient was positive to human Metapneumovirus while the test result of the other patient is still pending. The patients are being treated under isolation and in stable condition.  

     Admission to the ward has been suspended. Restriction on visits to and discharge from the ward have been imposed. Infection control measures in the ward concerned have already been stepped up. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
