The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has completed detailed inspection of 420 trees in the vicinity of the Yuen Chau Kok Park in Sha Tin upon the conclusion of a three-day operation today (June 17).
Forty members from the LCSD tree team took part in today's operation. They have inspected 110 trees of which 12 were removed because of their deteriorating conditions in the rainy weather. A total of 16 trees have been removed during the three-day operation.
An LCSD spokesman said: "We will continue to closely monitor the trees at the above site. We will step up inspection of trees under our custody in various districts, especially those located at venues with high pedestrian or traffic flow. We will also take prompt follow-up actions to enhance our tree maintenance work to ensure public safety."
"We are saddened by the death of Mr Choi Kit-keung during the collapse of a Peltophorum pterocarpum tree near Yuen Chau Kok Park in Sha Tin on June 14 and express again our deepest condolences to Mr Choi's family. We stand ready to provide them with all possible assistance."
