CHP investigates case of Legionnaires' Disease

     The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health is investigating a confirmed case of Legionnaires' Disease.

     The patient is a 60-year-old man. He presented with fever, cough and sputum since June 6 and was admitted to St Teresa's Hospital on June 11. He is now in stable condition.

     A urine test revealed that he was infected with Legionella bacteria.

     The CHP's investigation showed that he had travelled to the Mainland with his family members during the incubation period. His family members are asymptomatic.

     This is the 12th case of Legionnaires' Disease reported this year. Thirty-seven cases were reported in 2009, 13 in 2008 and 11 in 2007.
