SEN attends second day of C40 Workshop in Berlin (with photos)

     The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Edward Yau, today (June 11, German time) attended the second day of activities at the C40 Workshop in Berlin, Germany.

     In the morning, he took part in a discussion session of the C40 Workshop to share experiences with member cities on community energy planning and conservation to combat climate change.

     Mr Yau gave a presentation on Hong Kong's initiatives in energy conservation, detailing the multi-pronged strategies adopted to reduce carbon emissions. He said these measures included the promotion of energy efficiency in buildings, and green transport such as electric vehicles. After the panel discussion, he attended a C40 Workshop press conference jointly hosted by representatives from various member cities.

     Praising the workshop as a valuable platform for experience sharing and exchanges, Mr Yau said he was looking forward to meeting all member cities again in the coming C40 Workshop to be hosted by Hong Kong in November.

     In the afternoon, he visited Frankfurt an der Oder to see the First Solar Plant, which is a leading manufacturer of solar modules, providing a sustainable alternative to conventional energy sources. When in operation, its modules generate electricity with no air emissions and no waste production.

     Mr Yau will leave Germany for Hong Kong in the evening.
