Members of Adjudication Panel for Legislative Council Artwork Open Call appointed

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     The Legislative Council (LegCo) Commission announced today (June 6) the appointments of ten members to the Adjudication Panel of the Open Call for artwork proposals for the new LegCo Complex at Tamar. The Panel, comprising LegCo Members, overseas and local public art specialists, curator, architects and representatives of users of the LegCo Complex, will assess, shortlist and select the submitted artwork proposals for recommendation to the LegCo Commission.

     The membership of the Adjudication Panel is as follows:

     - Hon Jasper Tsang Yok-sing, President of LegCo (Chairman)
     - Professor Hon Patrick Lau Sau-shing, LegCo Member
     - Hon Fred Li Wah-ming, LegCo Member
     - Mr Fumio Nanjo, public art specialist
     - Professor Chan Yuk-keung, public art specialist
     - Mr Tang Hoi-chiu, Chief Curator
     - Mr Rocco Yim Sen-kee, Architect of Tamar Project
     - Mr Henry Choi Wan-kit, Project Director of Tamar Project
     - Miss Iris Hui, user representative (press)
     - Miss Queenie Lam Shui-ping, user representative (staff)

     Among members of the Adjudication Panel, Mr Fumio Nanjo and Professor Chan Yuk-keung are public art specialists. Mr Nanjo is presently the Director of the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, Japan. As a world renowned art curator, he has participated in numerous global events and public art projects such as the Singapore Biennale in 2006 and 2008 and VIVO City Art Project in Singapore in 2006. Professor Chan Yuk-keung is currently the Professor of Fine Arts in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. As an artist, Professor Chan has been exhibiting extensively in exhibitions including the 51st Venice Biennale and the 2nd Asia Pacific Triennial in Australia. He was awarded First Prize of Public Art Scheme Competition (Tai Po Central Town Square) and Second Prize of NORD/LB Art for Expo Competition in 1999. He was also the Art Consultant for the Shatin City Art Square Project in 2008.

     All preliminary artwork proposals received will be assessed by the Panel with a view to selecting three short-listed proposals for each of the four artwork locations for submission of detailed design proposals for the second-stage adjudication in October this year. Based upon the submissions of the detailed design proposals, the Panel will then decide on the final selections and recommend them to the Commission for possible commissioning.

     With the deadline for submissions of preliminary proposals less than four weeks away, interested artists and art teams are reminded to submit their proposals to the Special Duties Division of the LegCo Secretariat on or before 6pm, June 28, 2010.
