Police seek deception victims

     Police today (June 5) appealed to the victims of a suspected investment scam to come forward.

     The appeal has been made following the arrest of a 53-year-old man in connection with the case in Tai Po yesterday (June 4)

     Police investigation revealed that the suspect acquainted three male victims, aged between 45 and 46, in 2006. The suspect claimed that he has invented a high-tech "Magnetic forever running" machine and was applying for a patent.

     The suspect lured the victims to make an investment in the machine who gave a total of $1.48 million through bank transfer and in cash to the suspect between April 2006 and May 2007.
 
     However the suspect has never produced the actual machine to the victims and lost contact since October 2007.

     One of the victims ran into the suspect inside a car park at Heung Sze Wui Square, Tai Po yesterday and thus a report was made to the Police.

     Police arrested the man for uttering a forged document and obtaining property by deception at scene.

     He was being detained by the officers of District Investigation Team of Tai Po District for enquiries.

     Police also appeal to people who may have fallen prey to the same fraudster to call the Police on 3661 3610.
