13 employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (June 2) pursued 13 claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $165,000 on behalf of 45 employees, who were owed Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearing today, two defendants, Heyspace International Limited and Hui Tang-kam formerly trading as Kam Wah Restaurant, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $12,337.5 and $5,659.89, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other 11 defendants did not appear at the hearing. They were Joyful Management & Security Co. Limited, Kwok Po-chu trading as Fu Ah Seafood Restaurant, Vic Ford Limited trading as Finest Restaurant, Ng Chun-wa trading as Chun Hung Transp. Co., Chien Ken-yung trading as One Two Three For Hair, Erfolg Kitchen Design Limited, Seamark Corporation Limited trading as Anson Noodle, Smart Federal Limited, Goldwin Technology Development Limited, Form Choice Limited trading as Viola Beaute and Golden Income Treasure Limited. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $41,364.79, $22,671.16, $19,493.62, $17,052, $13,700, $10,254.22, $6,162.5, $5,210.52, $5,174.4, $3,265.57 and $3,213.78, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $90, $60, $130, $139, $175, $80, $99, $96, $60, $125, $105, $106 and $229 as the costs in respect of the claims.
