COY organises exchange session with youths (with photos)
********************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Commission on Youth:

The Commission on Youth (COY) organised an exchange session with youths today (June 2) and invited the Under Secretary for Education, Mr Kenneth Chen, to exchange views with youths on non-means-tested loan schemes.

Mr Chen said, "The non-means-tested loan scheme is an issue of concern for young people. The review aims to improve the operation of the non-means-tested loan schemes and covers areas including the interest rate, repayment arrangements, quality of courses, as well as measures to address the default situation. The first phase of the review has commenced. I call on the public to give us their views before the close of the consultation period on June 15. We will carefully consider the views received and draw up proposals for further consultation with the public in the next phase."

The Chairman of the COY, Mr Chan Chun-bun, said that the COY encourages youths to participate in social affairs and express their views. The COY will organise a series of exchange sessions and invite government representatives to attend so that the youths will have more opportunities to exchange views with them on topics of concern.

Mr Chan added that a representative from the Environment Bureau will attend the next youth exchange session. Details will be announced later.
