*************************************************

The Government released today (June 1) a consultation framework for collecting views on subsidising home ownership.

A spokesman for the Transport and Housing Bureau (THB) said: "The Chief Executive has stated that the Government's policy regarding the residential property market is to respond to market demand through the supply of land.

"The Government recognises that the subject of using public resources to subsidise home ownership is being debated in the community. On this important subject, the Government will listen to the views of members of the public to try to identify a consensus on a way forward."

The consultation exercise, lasting up to September 17, 2010, will engage stakeholders and members of the public through various channels to look at issues relevant to this subject. Views and suggestions collected will be forwarded to the Chief Executive for his consideration.

The consultation framework was uploaded today on a dedicated webpage on the THB website (www.thb.gov.hk/eng/policy/housing/policy/consultation/index.htm). Members of the public are welcome to browse the webpage for details of the consultation framework and related information.
