Broadcasting Authority holds monthly meeting

The following is issued on behalf of the Broadcasting Authority:

     At its meeting in May 2010, the Broadcasting Authority (BA)  noted that in March and April 2010, the Commissioner for Television and Entertainment Licensing (CTEL) dealt with 206 cases (316 complaints) under its delegated authority, of which 13 cases (13 complaints) were classified as minor breaches and 138 cases (191 complaints) were unsubstantiated.  The remaining 55 cases (112 complaints) were held to be outside the ambit of the Broadcasting Authority Ordinance. The monthly figures of complaints dealt with by CTEL from April 2009 to April 2010 are shown in Figure 1.  Charts showing the respective natures of the unsubstantiated complaints in March and April 2010 are at Figures 2 and 3.  Please visit the BA website (www.hkba.hk) for further information of the complaints.

     In addition, the BA accepted the applications of Master Asia Enterprises Limited, Harvest Star International Limited and Tak How Investment Limited to surrender their Other Licensable Television Programme Service Licences with effect from March 29, 2010, March 31, 2010 and March 31, 2010 respectively.  The BA noted that the surrender of licences were commercial decisions of the three licensees.  Following the above-mentioned surrender of licences, there are 24 Other Licensable Television Programme Service Licensees providing television programme services to hotels in Hong Kong.
