The Government announced today (May 31) that the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury has appointed the new term of Statistics Advisory Board members for two years from June 1, 2010 to May 31, 2012.
The new term of the Statistics Advisory Board includes seven serving members and four newly appointed members. The four new members include Professor Leonard Cheng Kwok-hon (Dean of Business and Management and Chair Professor of Economics, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology), Ms Margaret Fong Shun-man (Deputy Executive Director of Hong Kong Trade Development Council), Mr Tse Kam-keung (Executive Vice-President of State Street Bank and Trust Company) and Ms Wendy Yung Wen-yee (Executive Director and Company Secretary of Hysan Development Company Limited).
A government spokesman said: "Members of the Statistics Advisory Board are established professionals of different disciplines. With their expertise and background in different sectors, we believe that members of the new term will provide valuable contribution to the work of the Statistics Advisory Board."
"We are also grateful to the outgoing members, Mr David Fong Man-hung, Professor John Leong Chi-yan, Dr Shen Shir-ming and Mr Alan Wong Kam-fai, for their invaluable support and advice to the Statistics Advisory Board which helped foster the government statistical development over the past years," the spokesman added.
The Statistics Advisory Board is a non-statutory advisory body established in 1972 to advise the Commissioner for Census and Statistics on matters pertaining to official statistical work. Its membership consists of professionals from the business sector, the academia and the community, which provides for a wide representation to assist the Commissioner in integrating views of data users, raw data suppliers and statisticians.
