Chief Executive launches community campaign (with photos/videos)
**************************************************

The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, and members of his political team toured a number of districts across Hong Kong on open-top buses today (May 29), marking the launch of a community campaign to appeal to greater public support for the 2012 constitutional reform package.

Sharing the same final stop in Sha Tin, one bus parade started from Admiralty and passed through North Point and Quarry Bay on Hong Kong Island, while the other set off from Kowloon Bay and toured through Yau Ma Tei, Jordan and Tsim Sha Tsui.

During the journey, the buses carried banners with the campaign slogan "Act Now", calling for support for the constitutional reform package.

In his Hong Kong Letter broadcast on RTHK today, the Chief Executive said that there was no constitutional advancement back in 2005 as the reform package failed to obtain a two-thirds majority of votes in the Legislative Council.

"It is time to bridge our differences and move forward.  In the interest of Hong Kong and democracy, we must act now and set off for universal suffrage," the Chief Executive said.

The publicity started at around 3pm with the two teams of political appointees, led by the Chief Executive and the Chief Secretary for Administration respectively, distributing flyers and pins to the public in Pacific Place and Telford Plaza.

The two teams merged at Sha Tin and proceeded to the New Town Plaza to distribute publicity items.

More than 30 political appointees took part in the bus parades.

In the community campaign in the coming weeks, officials will reach out to people from all walks of life through various channels to solicit their support for the 2012 constitutional reform package.

Apart from new banners, buntings and posters, the Government has today launched new TV and radio Announcements in the Public Interest (API) and set up an official page on Facebook to promote the reform package.
