Entries are now invited for the Mid-Autumn Lantern Design Competition 2010.
The competition is jointly presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and the Education Bureau to promote the craft of lantern-making and to arouse public interest in traditional Chinese arts.
Comprising three divisions: primary school, secondary school and open division - for tertiary students and amateurs, the competition is now calling for entries. Primary and secondary students should submit entry forms through their schools by June 18 (Friday). For the open division, those interested should send their entry forms to the LCSD's Entertainment Office, 11/F, Queen Elizabeth Stadium, 18 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai, or by fax to 2575 0864 by July 9 (Friday).
Participants may enter as an individual or as a group of no more than four persons. Each participant may submit only one entry including group work. The same lantern cannot be submitted to more than one division.
All handmade lanterns with completed official labels should be submitted to the Exhibition Hall, 1/F, Low Block, Hong Kong City Hall, 5 Edinburgh Place, Central, between September 9 and 11 from 10am to 8pm.
The panel of judges will be made up of arts educationists and artists. The first three winners of each division will be awarded book coupons worth $1,800, $1,500 and $1,200 respectively, and entries judged to be outstanding will be awarded book coupons of $400. Three grand prizes will also be awarded to those with distinguished designs: the lantern with the best visual effect, the lantern with the most inspirational design and the lantern with the most creative design, and each winner will receive a book coupon of $500. All winners will also be awarded certificates of merit.
All lanterns will be displayed at the Exhibition Hall, 1/F, Low Block, Hong Kong City Hall, from September 16 to 25.
Entry forms for the primary school and secondary school divisions can be downloaded from the Education Bureau's website, www.edb.gov.hk, while entry forms for the open division are available at the LCSD's major cultural venues and all public libraries, or can be downloaded from the website www.lcsd.gov.hk/eo .
