Hospital Authority set up review committee

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding the setting up of a review committee on the Kwai Shing East Estate incident involving a mental patient, the Hospital Authority (HA) spokesperson made the following announcement today ( May 26):
 
     HA is deeply concerned about the incident. The review committee will be looking into the management and follow up on mental patients with a past history of violence, and examining the management of the patient involved in the tragic incident at Kwai Shing East Estate.
 
     The review committee will be chaired by Chairman of Hospital Governing Committee of Castle Peak Hospital and President of the Open University of Hong Kong, Professor John Leong. Members of the committee are drawn from both the medical and social welfare sectors with a view to reviewing the provision of multi-disciplinary and co-ordinated support services from the hospital to the community phases for the concerned patients.
 
     The review committee will deliver its findings and recommendations within two months. The report will be submitted to the Chief Executive of the HA and the Food and Health Bureau.
