The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (May 26) pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $104,000 on behalf of 12 employees, who were owed Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) contributions by their employers.
At the Tribunal's hearing today, six defendants, namely Petworld Enterprises Limited; May Wah Bags Company Limited; Chung Mei-wan and Yau Wai-heung trading as Smart Kinetic Art Centre; Antique Group Limited trading as Antique Patisserie & Fine Chocolates; Yau Wai-heung trading as Smart Kinetic Art Centre; and Chan Kwong-sun and Cheung Kin-chun formerly trading as Kwong Fat Cargo Service Company, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $30,135, $26,069.6, $20,548.75, $15,703.57, $8,600 and $3,288.79, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable respectively.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $165, $181, $179, $70, $60 and $256 as the costs in respect of the claims.
