     The Immigration Department announced today (May 26) that with immediate effect, the following categories of non-permanent Hong Kong residents may submit their applications for extension of stay via the Internet:

- Persons admitted under the General Employment Policy or their dependants;
- Persons admitted under the Admission Scheme for Mainland Talents and Professionals or their dependants;
- Persons admitted under the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates or their dependants;
- Persons admitted under the Supplementary Labour Scheme;
- Persons on student status or their dependants; and
- Dependants of Hong Kong permanent residents or dependants of Hong Kong residents who are not subject to a limit of stay (i.e. residents with the right to land or on unconditional stay).

     Eligible applicants may visit www.gov.hk/esapplication to submit an application for extension of stay online or for further information.  A department spokesman pointed out that an application for extension of stay should be submitted within four weeks before the expiry of the applicant's limit of stay, and that the applicant should be physically present in Hong Kong both at the time of application and at the time of collection of the extension of stay label.

     In addition to the newly launched e-submission service, eligible applicants may continue to submit applications for extension of stay in person or through an authorised person.
