New exhibition on global connectivity kicks off at Hong Kong Pavilion in Shanghai Expo (with photos)

     Commissioner, HKSAR Expo Affairs Office, Mr Patrick Chan and Chief Executive Officer of the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK), Mr Stanley Hui officiated at the kick-off ceremony of the "Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA): Global Connectivity. World-class Service" Exhibition at the atrium of the Hong Kong Pavilion in the Expo 2010 Shanghai China (Shanghai Expo) today (May 23).

     Running till June 22, the exhibition showcases the seamless connectivity of the HKIA and its significant contributions to the economic growth of Hong Kong.

     On display are exhibition panels highlighting the extensive aviation network of Hong Kong, the HKIA's world-class services and facilities as well as its major environmental initiatives.

     Mr Chan said at the ceremony, "Hong Kong connects to the world seamlessly due to its advantageous geographic location and superior transport infrastructure system.

     "It is most appropriate for the AAHK to stage this thematic exhibition at the Hong Kong Pavilion to introduce the various edges and outstanding services of our airport to people from all parts of the world visiting our pavilion."

     HKIA is one of the Platinum Sponsors of Hong Kong's participation in Shanghai Expo. So far, there are altogether 27 sponsors contributing more than $38 million in cash and kind.

     Six thematic exhibitions will be held at the atrium of the Hong Kong Pavilion throughout the Shanghai Expo period from May 1 to October 31, 2010 to promote various aspects of Hong Kong, including its unique connectivity and creativity.  The first thematic exhibition "Green Living in Hong Kong" ended yesterday and was highly popular.  After the HKIA exhibition unveiled today, there will be four more exhibitions:

-"One Country, Two Systems" Exhibition from June 23 to July 15;
-"Stories Behind Banknotes" Exhibition from July 16 to August 15;
-"Passion for Hong Kong" Exhibition of Works by Professor Jao Tsung-I from August 16 to September 30; and
-"Creativity of Hong Kong Industries" Exhibition from October 1 to October 31.
