The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (May 7) pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $19,000 on behalf of 10 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the Tribunal's hearing today, a defendant, CKG Chemicals (HK) Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $6,270, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other four defendants, namely SuperCom Asia Pacific Limited, Chiu Hon Wah, Leong Kam Kuai trading as Atlantic Bakery, Everpower Ind. (HK) Company Limited and Grandnews International (Group) Holdings Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $7,559.02, $3,143.24, $2,648.7 and $267.72, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $95, $60, $129, $95 and $95 as the costs in respect of the claims.
